In 2008, an astonishing discovery made by researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden changed our understanding of human fat cells. It was found that all adults, regardless of age, gender, or body type, have the same number of fat cells - approximately 30 billion!
This means that it is not the amount of fat cells that you have that increases, but rather the size of these fat cells. Fat cells can balloon up to 50 times their original size in order to store fat! These findings led researchers to further explore ways of reducing fat and eventually uncovered a way to dissolve them. The process involves breaking down fats and lipids into fatty acids which are then used to fuel the body.
The discovery of this process has had a revolutionary impact on obesity management and weight loss, as it is now possible for people to actively reduce their amount of fat cells rather than simply reducing the size of them. This has huge implications for long-term health and wellness - with fewer fat cells in our bodies, we can reduce our risk for diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
As this discovery continues to be researched and improved upon, it is clear that a new era of fat management has been ushered in - one where we can actively take charge of our own health!
